Spiders To Play At Syracuse Nov. 18 On ESPN
Sept. 24, 2008
BRISTOL, Conn. - The Richmond men's basketball team will play at Syracuse on ESPN Nov. 18 as part of the network's marathon of 14 games to kick off the 2008-09 college basketball season. The Spiders and Orange will square off in the Carrier Dome at 6 p.m. as part of the CBE Classic. The game will be followed by a special 8 p.m. edition of College GameDay from Chapel Hill, N.C. and the final game of the marathon, Kentucky at North Carolina at 9 p.m. This will be Richmond's second trip to the Carrier Dome and fourth game against the Orange. The Spiders defeated nationally ranked Syracuse 73-69 on March 14, 1991 in one of the biggest upsets in NCAA Tournament history. It marked the first time a No. 15 seed defeated a No. 2 seed. Syracuse has won the last two meetings between the schools, including a win in the quarterfinals of the 2002 NIT in front of a sellout crowd in the Robins Center. The marathon starts at 12 a.m. ET on Nov. 18 when national runner-up Memphis hosts Massachusetts, where Tigers head coach John Calipari once coached. There are games featuring teams in 14 conferences and one women's game (Iowa at Kansas, 2 p.m. ET on ESPN). It also includes four NIT semifinals and two games in the CBE Classic, including defending national champion Kansas hosting Florida Gulf Coast (9 p.m. ET, ESPN U). Every game on ESPN and ESPN2 will be simulcast on ESPN360.com. There will be two studio shows, including a four-hour special beginning at 6 a.m. ET. College GameDay will be in Chapel Hill at 8 p.m. ET. The remainder of Richmond's games in the CBE Classic will be announced shortly.
