A Richmond native and collegiate star at Hampton University, Latrell Scott is in his third year with the Spiders and third season as wide receiver coach. He was elevated to assistant head coach prior to the 2007 season and also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator. In the last three seasons, Scott has mentored a pair of All-Conference wideouts in Arman Shields and Kevin Grayson. Although missing most of his final season with an injury, Shields became the first Spider since 1997 to earn an invitation to the NFL Draft Combine. Coming off an All-Conference season in 2006, Shields played in just one full game in 2007 -- 107 yards receiving at Vanderbilt -- before going down. With Scott's aide, Shields surpassed the 100-yard mark in a game seven times over the last three seasons and finished his Richmond career sixth in yards (1,930), second in catches (160) and eighth in TD's (13). But Shields injury allowed the emergence of the freshman Grayson, who ended his first year as the Offensive Rookie of the Year in the CAA. His numbers included a Richmond single-season record 68 catches for a UR freshman-record 970 yards. Grayson passed the 100-yard mark four times as a rookie. Scott's receivers caught a school-record 218 passes for 2,391 yards in 2007 -- the fifth-most yards in school history. Richmond's 121 passing first downs tied a school record. In 2006, behind the All-Conference Shields, the Spiders averaged 187.8 yards per game in the air and caught 10 touchdown passes -- the third-most in the A-10 that year. Shields went on to catch 54 passes for 640 yards. Scott came to Richmond after spending three seasons as the wide receivers coach at VMI. During his tenure in Lexington, VMI led the Big South in passing with 209.1 yards per game in 2003. He also coached Zohn Burden, an All-Conference honoree, and T.J. Snelling who ranked third in the conference in receptions. Before coaching at VMI, Scott spent one year at Western Carolina (2001) and two years at Fork Union Military Academy (1999-2000). A three-year starter at tight end while playing at Hampton, Scott earned All-America honors following his senior season. He played on two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and I-AA playoff teams. He also competed in the Gridiron All-Star Classic in Orlando, Fla. Scott earned a B.A. in sport management in 1999 and is a product of Lee-Davis High School in Richmond. Coaching Experience
