Spiders Participate In Va. Healthy Youth Day
Jan. 21, 2010 RICHMOND, Va. -
Spider student-athletes and coaches from field hockey, football and women's soccer, along with Spidey, joined some 250 school-age students at the State Capitol Wednesday morning in a variety of work-out exercises on Virginia Healthy Youth Day. The new First Lady of Virginia, Mrs. Maureen McDonnell, delivered the keynote speech.
Women's soccer head coach Peter Albright, assistant coach Jen Woodie, senior Carter Blair, field hockey junior Sara Reese and football junior Eric McBride participated in the event at the Capital Square Bell Tower, joined by elementary and middle school youngsters from Chesterfield County and Fluvanna County public schools.
The event, designed to educate the students about the importantce of physical fitness, was hosted by the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth and officially kicked off the organization's childhood-obesity prevention efforts. The Foundation also promotes reducing youth tobacco use in the Commonwealth.
