UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND - All-America senior OL Michael Silva and All-CAA Football senior LB Collin McConaghy headlined a group of eight University of Richmond Football players that were selected to the 2009 Academic All-CAA Football squad, which was announced Wednesday. The eight selections are the most in a season for the 2009 CAA Champion Spiders.

Joining Silva and McConaghy are senior OL Chris Kondorossy, junior RB Tyler Kirchoff, senior WR Jonathan Mayfield, freshman QB John Laub, junior LB Patrick Weldon and senior P Brett Weigand.

Both Kondorossy and Silva have earned three-consecutive mentions on the CAA Football All-Academic Team (2007, 2008, 2009), while Kirchoff and Weldon are repeat honorees.

CAA Football cited 106 student-athletes - 63 on offense and 43 on defense - as members of its 2009 Academic All-Conference team. Hofstra, New Hampshire and Northeastern each led with 13 selections, while Richmond's eight were fourth-most in the league behind Towson and Delaware's 12 and Rhode Island's 10.

Villanova senior LB Osayi Osunde was selected as the league's Student-Athlete of the Year.

To be eligible for the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team, a player must be a starter or important reserve and have a cumulative GPA of 3.00-or-better (on a 4.00 scale) for his entire academic career. A transfer is not eligible unless he has completed one (1) full year at his institution. First-year freshmen are not eligible.

Voting for the Student-Athlete of the Year honor is conducted by the 12 CAA Football Sports Information Directors from the 2009 season.
