
Richmond Football Promotes Assistant Coaches Scott and Durkin
Aug. 2, 2007 UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond head coach Dave Clawson has announced a pair of promotions on his coaching staff, elevating Latrell Scott to assistant head coach and Bill Durkin to offensive run-game coordinator. Scott is entering his third year with the Spiders and also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach. A native of Richmond and star at Hampton University, Scott joined the Spiders after three seasons as the wide receivers coach at VMI. Richmond wideout Arman Shields earned All-Conference recognition under Scott's guidance last season. During his tenure in Lexington, VMI led the Big South in passing with 209.1 yards per game in 2003. Before coaching at VMI, Scott spent one year at Western Carolina (2001) and two years at Fork Union Military Academy (1999-2000). "Latrell has a done a great job in developing our corps of wide receivers," said Clawson. "Additionally, he has organized all of our successful recruiting efforts." Durkin enters his 11th season at Richmond and after three successful years as the offensive line coach, was promoted to offensive run-game coordinator for 2007. Last season, his offensive line allowed the Spiders to average more than 160 yards rushing per game. Their pass protection yielded just 15 sacks, which was second-least in the A-10 and ranked 21st in the country. He coached graduated senior Judd Altman (OL) to First Team All-Conference honors and current senior Tim Silver to Third Team honors. The 1994 graduate of Massachusetts was chosen as one of the Yankee Conference's Top-50 Players all-time. "Bill has been a big reason that our offensive line has developed into one of the top units in CAA Football," said Clawson. "His understanding of our run game and schemes has proven to be invaluable on our staff." Richmond opens the season with three straight road contests, including the season-opener at Vanderbilt on Sept. 1. The home opener is set for Sept. 29 at UR Stadium versus New Hampshire, which is also Family Weekend. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
