Quick Slants:
• No. 1 Richmond returns home to host No. 4 Villanova Saturday on the Spiders 79th Homecoming Weekend in a pivotal showdown that holds CAA Football title and postseason implications.

• A win Saturday ensures the Spiders at least a share of the 2009 CAA Football conference title -- its fifth league crown since 1998.

• Richmond is 40-32-6 all-time on Homecoming and has won seven of its last 10, including a 2007 win over Villanova.

• The reigning National Champions have won a school-record 17-consecutive games -- a streak that ranks as the longest in the FCS and second-longest in Division I football behind Florida (18).

• Richmond has won three-consecutive games versus teams ranked fifth or better (7-9 in its last 16 games). The three-straight wins came over No. 2 App. State, No. 4 Northern Iowa and No. 5 Montana en route to the 2008 FCS title.

• The Spiders are 8-0 for the first time in the team's 127-year history and sit alone atop the rugged South Division at 6-0. Richmond is one of just 10 undefeated teams in D-I football (three in the FCS).

• Villanova leads the all-time series over Richmond 19-9, including the Spiders' last road loss -- 26-20 on Sept. 27, 2008 in the only week last season that Richmond reached No. 1 in the FCS Top 25.

• Senior QB Eric Ward, who needs just 34 yards to become the school's all-time leading passer, has won nine-straight November games.

• Senior RB Justin Forte (pictured) leads the CAA in rushing (92.2 yds/gm) and is averaging 115.2 over the last five games.

• The Spiders have 12 interceptions in 2009, but 11 in the last four games.

• Senior NT Martin Parker (12.5 TFL, 4.0 sacks) leads a Richmond defense that ranks third in the nation against the run (71.1 yds/gm).
