Dec. 3, 2001

Former Spider football and basketball star Robert "Swat" Erickson will be one of four people inducted into the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame this winter. Erickson joins Van Miller, Bob Schnars and the late Craig Paterniti in the 2002 class.

Erickson lived in Chautauqua County from 1918 to 1947. He was the captain and leading scorer for the 1936 Jamestown High School football team and was named to the All-Western New York team as an end.

Following his prep career, the Youngstown, Ohio native played football and basketball for the Spiders.

In 1946 he was offered a tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on February 18.
