MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. - Sophomore Sam Beach tied for 33rd at 3-over-par as the Richmond men's golf team tied for 13th at the VCU Shootout, completed Tuesday at Hermitage Country Club.

The Spiders shot a 10-over 294 for the second-straight round to finish the 54-hole tournament at 21-over 873. Richmond had carded a 1-over 285 in the first round on Monday morning.

"We were hitting the ball pretty well all tournament, but we just couldn't get putts to fall," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We were hitting greens but if we could have made more putts we could have gone a lot lower."

Beach opened the tournament with a 2-under-par 69 in the first round on the par-71, 6,710-yard course. He followed that up with a 3-over 74 in the second round Monday afternoon and shot a 2-over 73 in Tuesday's final round to finish at 3-over-par.

Sophomore Michael Shrader tied for 44th, three shots behind Beach at 6-over 219. Shrader, who made the team as a walk-on earlier this month and was playing in his first event with the Spiders, also had an opening round 69. After a 7-over 78 in the second round Monday afternoon, Shrader rebounded with a 1-over 72 in the final round. He was 2-under with four holes remaining Tuesday, before bogeying three of his last four holes.

Senior Tim Courtney tied for 59th at 9-over 222. He shot a 75 in the opening round, 74 in the second round and a 2-over 73 in the third round. Junior Robert Lindstrom tied for 67th at 10-over 223. He shot 75 in the first round, 72 in the second and 76 in the final round. Senior Lawrence Lessing tied for 72nd at 225 (72-74-79).

The Spiders return to action Oct. 13-14 at the Liberty Invitational at Spring Creak Golf Club.
