Old Dominion Defeats Spiders In Double Overtime
Sept. 29, 2007 NORFOLK, Va. - The Richmond men's soccer team battled Old Dominion scoreless through 104 minutes, but T.J. Beaulieu scored in double overtime to give the Monarchs a 1-0 victory on Saturday night. The Spiders, who are were playing the third of four-straight games against teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last year, dropped to 3-6 on the season. "We played pretty well tonight, it was a great college soccer game," Richmond head coach Jeff Gettler said. "They were a good team, and very athletic. I thought we had a lot of good parts of the game where we played pretty well and defended well." Beaulieu scored his second-career game-winning goal on assists from A.J. Kulp and Yomby William in the 105th minute. "It's disappointing, we were broken down and stretched apart and they got in behind us again for kind of a mini breakaway at the end," Gettler said. "Really it was just a ball that slipped through at the top of the 18, but he did get in on Eric (Sciocchetti) alone and was able slip it under him." Richmond senior goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti made a season-high 11 saves for the second-straight game. "Sciocchetti played very, very well," Gettler said. "Jake Russell was also strong up front." Saturday's game was the last game Richmond will play against a team outside the Atlantic 10 during the regular season. The Spiders host two-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion Rhode Island in a non-conference game next Sunday, Oct. 7 at noon before opening conference play.
