WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Richmond men's soccer team held the Atlantic 10's highest scoring team without a goal throughout regulation, but with 2:00 remaining in the first overtime George Washington scored to take a 1-0 victory in the conference opener for both teams Saturday.

George Washington (7-4-0, 1-0-0 Atlantic 10) had scored 23 goals through its first 10 games, but the Spider defense did a good job of keeping them off the board for the first 97 minutes, but Greg McKay took a ball out wide, cut inside and blasted a screamer from 30 yards out into the upper corner of the net.

"(Eric) Sciocchetti had no chance," Richmond head coach Jeff Gettler said.

The Spiders had chances to score, but continued to struggle in finding the back of the net.

"We created some good chances, but just didn't finish anything," Gettler said. "We had a free kick at the top of the 18, a couple of good crosses, some dangerous corners, but we couldn't get a goal and they caught us in overtime."

Richmond senior goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti made seven saves in goal in nearly posting his 13th career shutout, which would have put him in a tie for fifth on the school's career list.

"Sciocchetti played pretty well, the team played well at times and I thought we defended well," Gettler said. "It's a difficult start to the league and now we have two more on the road in Philadelphia."

The Spiders (3-7-1, 0-1-1 Atlantic 10) play at Temple on Friday at 1 p.m. and then at Saint Joseph's on Oct. 21 at noon.
