UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - For the second-straight game the Richmond men's soccer team out-shot its opponent, but for the second-straight game the Spiders lost 2-0, this time to Charlotte at First Market Stadium.

The Spiders out-shot Charlotte 18-14 for the game, but held a decisive 12- advantage in the first half, when Richmond controlled play. The Spiders had what appeared to be a goal on a shot by sophomore Malcolm Joseph, but the ball hit the bottom of the cross bar and bounced out onto the field of play.

"I thought the first half was maybe the best opening half we've had all year," Richmond head coach Jeff Gettler said. "We were pretty dominate at both ends of field and had great chances. I thought we maybe had a goal that didn't count, it came out, hit the underside of bar and didn't go in."

Then in the 67th minute Charlotte turned the momentum around when Kevin Fox blasted a shot from 30 yards out that found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

The 49ers (9-5-1, 3-2-1 Atlantic 10) made it 2-0 when Richmond goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti came out to knock away a cross, but Charlotte's Will Shull was able to come up with the ball and find Chris Salvaggione in front of the net for the second goal of the game.

The Spiders hit the road next weekend to take on St. Bonaventure on Friday at 3 p.m. and Duquesne on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

"Once again we didn't score, so we have got to regroup very hard because we're on the road for two very difficult A-10 games," Gettler said. "We've got to win these games to have any chance to be alive for the conference tournament."
