UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond men's soccer team lost to La Salle 2-0 on Friday night at First Market Stadium.

"It was a tough game, La Salle had to win to stay alive and they came out and played hard," Richmond head coach Jeff Gettler said. "I thought the first 25 minutes we were very good and really controlled play. They hadn't gotten at all at our goal, and we had gotten at them a bit, but couldn't finish."

The two teams played to a scoreless tie until the final three minutes of the first half, when La Salle's Kevin Lydic scored off of a deflection of a shot by Brian Barry. Nine minutes into the second half the Explorers made it 2-0 when Daniel Heavey ripped a shot that Richmond goalkeeper Eric Sciocchetti saved, but Jeremy Ortiz knocked in the rebound.

Sciocchetti made six saves in goal, while La Salle keeper Andrew Bernhard made five saves.

The Spiders close out the season on Sunday when they host Fordham for Senior Day at 1 p.m.

"Now we face Fordham for our last game on Senior Day," Gettler said. "Fordham is playing for a chance to get into the tournament, so I hope it will be the kind of performance where we can walk off the field proud of our last game."
