Hartman And Pugsley Named Captains Of 2007 Men's Soccer Team

May 4, 2007

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Seniors Phil Hartman and Sam Pugsley were elected as the men's soccer team captains for the 2007 season, head coach Jeff Gettler announced.

Hartman will be a co-captain for the second-straight year, while Pugsley will be in his first year as a team captain.

"With Phil being a two-year team captain and Sam being selected for his senior year I look forward to them giving the team tremendous guidance and leadership," Gettler said. "I further expect our whole senior class to take the reigns of leadership and lead this team to a special season."

The Spiders finished 10-7-1 overall and 6-1-2 in the Atlantic 10 in 2006. Richmond reached the Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinals, where they lost to eventual champion Rhode Island 1-0.

Hartman was the team co-MVP as a sophomore in 2005 and was named NSCAA Academic All-East Region honorable mention in 2006. Pugsley is a back who has played a key role in the Spiders stingy defense the past two seasons. He scored two goals and had one assist in 2006.

Richmond's 2007 schedule will be released next week.
