Stephen Davis joins Men's Soccer Coaching Staff

June 10, 2008

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond native Stephen Davis will join the University of Richmond men's soccer program as an assistant coach, head coach Jeff Gettler announced.

"We are happy to welcome Stephen and feel he will be a great addition to our staff," Gettler said. "We expect him to help in all phases of our program in the upcoming year."

The former Midlothian High School standout has coached numerous high school and club teams and holds a NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma and an NSCAA Regional Diploma.

He led the Amherst County High School's boys' varsity team to its first-ever Seminole District Finals in 2004. Amherst posted its best record in school history (11-7-2) in 2004 and Davis led the school to 16 wins in his two seasons at the helm, the best two-year run in school history. Davis also coached the Midlothian High School junior varsity and varsity teams in 2005 and the Brookville High junior varsity team in 2002.

He has coached with the Chesterfield United Soccer Club, where he led his team to the Chesterfield/Big Toe, Premier Bracket Championship, the VSLI Premier Bracket Championship and the WISC Indoor Premier Division Championship. He also coached the Soccer Organization of Charlottesville/Abermarle to the Beach FC Columbus Day Tournament Premier Bracket finals and the VYSA State Cup semi-finals.

Davis graduated from Lynchburg College with a bachelor of arts in communication studies with an emphasis on journalism. After suffering a serious career-ending knee injury, Davis spent the off-seasons training the Lynchburg men and women's soccer teams.
