Two forms of footwork agreed with Cass Meadows. That was the issue.

Meadows came to the University of Richmond in part because the Spiders recruited him to run on their cross country team. Following a UR meet last fall, Meadows didn't feel the same as he had after previous competitions.

"The satisfaction just wasn't there like it used to be," the resident of Huntington, W.Va., said yesterday. He continued to run through the fall season.

But more and more, Meadows watched the Spiders' soccer team play. And more and more, he missed the sport, in which he also stood out while a high school student. Following winter break, Meadows met with cross country coach Steve Taylor. Meadows asked for the opportunity to change sports. Taylor gave his blessing.
