Spiders Compete in ODU Invitational

Oct. 2, 2008

University of Richmond, Va. - The men's tennis squad made a strong showing this past weekend at the ODU Invitational in Norfolk, Va. Senior Sami Belakhlef and sophomore Will Minter defeated Simon Janik and Michael Langel of Kennesaw State 8-5, to advance to the final round of play in the Men's Doubles A Consolation final rounds.

Freshmen Matt Feely and Chester Murray defeated CNU and Morgan State before falling in the final round of play in the Men's Doubles B Flight Round.

The freshmen fared well in the singles rounds, with Sam Hyland, Matt Feeley and Chester Murray all winning multiple games.

Transfer A.J. Nelson won five straight to win out the Men's D Singles Final Rounds.

"We took a lot of young guys there and I was impressed with their effort and the results," said head coach Billy Boykin. "They're working hard this fall and we're improving as a team. I'm looking forward to the spring and hopefully we can continue to develop."

The Spiders return to action on October 16th, when they compete in the ITA Regional Championships. The tournament will take place in Chapel Hill, N.C.
