Oct. 12, 2009
DAVIDSON, N.C. -
The Richmond men's tennis team continued fall action at the Davidson College Jim Causey Invitational this past weekend. The Spiders won a total of eleven singles matches and five doubles contests over the course of the two-day tourney. Sophomore Sam Hyland led the way for the Spiders with four victories in singles and doubles. "This was a good tournament for our squad. All of our guys competed hard and recorded victories in both singles and doubles. We have been working hard on the court and in the weight room and that work is beginning to pay off. We have to keep pushing ourselves in order to reach our potential." In doubles action against the Appalachian State Mountaineers, the Spider tandem pairs at No. 1, 3, 4 all recorded victories. Senior Will Minter and freshman Sebastien Fauchet def. Trent Constance/Peter Jacobs, 9-7 while sophomores Sam Hyland and Dylan Schrode def. Andrew McKinnon/Britton Webb, 9-8 (5). Junior A.J. Nelson and freshman Justin Baker downed Appalachian State's Ezekiel Sansing/Russ Ferrari. In singles action against Gardner-Webb, six Spiders recorded victories and two pairs notched wins in the doubles category. Richmond recorded three singles victories against host Davidson with Fauchet, Nelson and Hyland all picking up wins.
The Spiders conclude fall action at the College of Charleston Cougar Invitational in two weeks. |
