Shells Honored Among The Nation's Top Women's Basketball Rookies

May 1, 2008

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman Brittani Shells was one of fifteen rookies around the country named to the 2008 Young Gballmag.com All-America team. The Richmond standout is among the nation's top freshman including Connecticut's Maya Moore and the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Year Ta'Shia Phillips of Xavier.

Shells, a member of the 2008 A-10 All-Rookie team, finished the season averaging 14 points per game in 31 games, earning starts in every contest to lead the Spiders.

The native of Camden, Delaware put up big performances against nationally-ranked teams Maryland and George Washington. Against the Terps Shells scored a career-high 27 points and put up 21 and 17 point performances in the two games against the Colonials.

Only two freshmen from the A-10 made the Gballmag.com team, Shells and Phillips. The A-10 second team selection, Phillips, helped the Musketeers earn the A-10 championship crown averaging just over 14 points per game and 11.3 rebounds per game.
