Women's Basketball Announces 2008-09 Schedule

Sept. 11, 2008

  • 2008-09 Schedule

University of Richmond, Va. - Home games against Maryland, Wake Forest and Xavier, as well as tournaments at both the University of Alabama and Tennessee-Chattanooga, highlight the 2008-09 Richmond women's basketball schedule. The Spiders will face 12 opponents at home and 16 on the road.

"I believe that we put together a good, competitive schedule that will give our ladies an opportunity to have a successful year," head coach Michael Shafer said. "We face some teams that have postseason experience, we play some tough road games and we get two ACC teams at the Robins Center. I look forward to the challenges and the opportunities that this schedule presents."

The Spiders' Atlantic 10 schedule opens at the Robins Center on Jan. 10 with 2008 NCAA Sweet 16 participant George Washington. Other home games include: 2008 NCAA participant Xavier and 2008 WNIT participants Charlotte and Dayton.

"The Atlantic 10 will once again be tough, one of the top 10 conferences in America," said Shafer. "Every year, our league gets deeper and stronger. We get three of the top teams at home in the Robins Center, Xavier, George Washington and Charlotte, so hopefully we can use that to our advantage. There are six to eight teams that are all competitive enough to battle for byes in the tournament. We are going to try to distinguish ourselves from that group."

Game times and television will be released at a later date.
