Women's Basketball Team Gives Back For The Holidays

Dec. 15, 2007

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Head coach Michael Shafer and his wife Erin adopted a Richmond family for Christmas on behalf of the women's basketball program. The entire women's basketball program did their part in helping to make a family's Christmas a little more special. Players, coaches and staff members supplied clothes, food, toys and blankets for the family of five, a single mother and her four children.

The Shafers, with the program's help, adopted the family through their local church. The single mother and her four children, ages 3, 5, 8 and 10, were able to meet the women's basketball players, coaches and staff members while they received and opened Christmas gifts. Players were able to take time off from their busy exam schedule to give back to their community by visiting the family personally.
