OXFORD, Ohio - The Richmond field hockey team was locked in a scoreless tie at the half, but Miami (OH) turned it on the second half for a 6-1 victory Sunday.

The Spiders (1-1), who defeated Ball State 8-3 in the season opener, only managed one goal on Sunday.

"Our team was not able to make the changes needed against a hungry Miami program," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. " It was a very bitter day, but my hope is that we will learn to be consistent in performing as a team."

Richmond freshman Kaitlin Peterson scored her second goal in as many collegiate games in the game's 67th minute.

"It's always inspiring when you see a freshmen playing to the final whistle," Lucido said.

Miami broke the scoreless tie 4:16 into the second half when Mary Hull scored on an assist from Amanda Seeley. Seeley made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute, and six minutes later it was Elizabeth Gilroy who tallied for the RedHawks to make it 3-0.

Teja Kammler scored in the 55th minute on a breakaway to make it 4-0 and then Jackie Nguyen scored goals in the 65th and 66th minute to give the RedHawks (2-0) at six goal lead.

Peterson found the back of the net with 3:18 remaining to put the Spiders on the board.

Richmond returns to action on Saturday at Crenshaw Field when the Spiders host Princeton in the 2008 home opener at 11 a.m.
