UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond field hockey team lost to Miami of Ohio 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.

Miami put the pressure on the Spiders right from the start, taking a 2-0 less then 20 minutes into the game.

"I give credit to Miami, they just came out attacking," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. "They were very, very aggressive form start to finish. We definitely struggled to find a way to counterattack. They had a really great press on us."

Richmond answered Miami's second goal with a goal by sophomore Megan Thompson that came on a penalty corner with 15:40 remaining in the first half. Senior Tara Kelly and junior Sarah Schrott had assists.

The RedHawks quickly responded with their third goal of the game with 12:17 left in the half and would tack on two second-half goals.

"We've been really struggling just having an entire effort and I think we all definitely played with their hearts today,"

Junior goalkeeper Becca Weaver made a career-high 12 saves in the contest, while sophomore Jacki Raithel made three saves in 12 minutes of action.

The Spiders (1-5) begin a six-game road swing on Friday at James Madison beginning at 7 p.m.

"This is definitely a big low for us, but we are going to find a way," Lucido said.
