The Spiders Take On No. 2 Terps

March 11, 2008

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond women's lacrosse team heads to College Park to take on its third top-10 opponent of the 2008 season. The Terrapins jumped two spots to number two in the IWLCA poll this week. Always beginning its season with a competitive schedule, Richmond has already faced two other ACC teams, Duke and Virginia. Junior Allison Furstenburg currently leads the Spiders with 20 goals and 10 assists in their first six games of the season.

The Spiders head to College Park 2-4 on the season. Richmond started the season with a bang, earning a big win over Longwood, 21-11. After opening the season with the Lancers, the Spiders lost three-straight games.

Last season, Richmond hosted then-No. 3 Maryland at First Market Stadium where the Terps proved to be too much for the Spiders as they fell in a 15-9 decision. Allison Furstenburg and now-senior Jenna Hubbard both recorded hat tricks to lead the Spiders in the loss.

So far in 2008 the Terps have lost just one game to ACC opponent Duke 14-13. Since then, Maryland is coming off two big wins, first one coming against Virginia in a 8-5 decision, then earning a win over James Madison 16-10. Kelly Kasper currently leads the Terps with 16 goals and nine assists so far this season for a total of 25 points.

Continuing their spring break competition, the Spiders stay on the road as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on JMU Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
