Oct. 14, 2007

Box Score

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jessie Wolfe struck first for the Richmond women's soccer team, but homestanding Charlotte scored the game's final two goals, including the winner in overtime, to beat the Spiders 2-1 Sunday afternoon.

First-place Charlotte kept its undefeated conference season going and improved to 5-0-1 in Atlantic 10 play and 10-3-1 overall. Richmond slipped to 2-3-1, 3-9-2.

Sam Huecker scored twice for the 49ers, once in the 71st minute to tie the match at 1-1 and the winner in extra time. She broke the tie with her fifth goal of the season, scoring from close range past Richmond keeper Kate Hudson 5:38 into the first extra period.

Huecker's equalizer came 26 minutes after the Spiders had gone up 1-0 on the fourth goal of the season from Wolfe. Her unassisted tally came on a bomb from 25 yards out that beat the Charlotte goalkeeper.

The Spiders were out-shot 12-7 in match, getting a shot each from seven different players.

Richmond remains on the road next week for games at George Washington Friday and at Longwood Saturday.
