Katy Peterson, a former Virginia Tech Hokie swimmer, has been with the Spiders for two season after joining Baranay's staff in August 2005. The Philadelphia, Pa., native graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Human Nutrition, Foods & Exercise, after a record-setting four-year career for the Hokies. "Katy was an accomplished national level swimmer," Barany said. "Her experience on this level, as a swimmer at Germantown Academy and Virginia Tech, will help us to continue to develop our `national level' atmosphere and expectations." After graduating from Lower Moreland High School, where she was an All-American from 1998-2001, she headed south to swim for the Hokies. While in Blacksburg, Va., the backstroker qualified for the Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference finals four-straight years in the 100 and 200 distance. Peterson also was successful on the national level qualifying for the Senior Nationals in the 100 and 200 back from 2000-2005. The Spider assistant coach was the individual record-holder at Virginia Tech in the 100 and 200 back, and was part of the record-holding 400 medley relay. Two Hokie pool records belong to Peterson, in both the 100 and 200 back events. "I am very excited to have Katy with us," Barany added. "She will be a valuable asset in providing these young women with great opportunities to grow in athletics and academics. I have been impressed with her energy and eagerness to help the Richmond program." |
