Spider Swimming Takes Seventh At 2008 Terrapin Cup

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Richmond women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the 2008 Terrapin Cup Saturday evening and the Spiders finished seventh overall. Freshman Mary Anne Lerro shattered a lifetime best in the 200 breast to highlight the final day. Lerro's time in the 200 breast of 2:24.42 was a personal record by nearly three seconds was good for 17th. "Mary Anne gave us the courageous swim of the meet," said head coach Matt Barany. "Her 200 breast was a lifetime best by three seconds and I loved her style." Another freshman, Alexi Kuska took ninth in the 1,650 free with a time of 17:36.73. Sophomore Nicole LePere was 11th in the 200 back (2:04.72), while sophomore Elizabeth Hailand was 15th in 2:06.82. In the 100 free, junior Katie Sieben posted a time of 52.62, which was good for 14th. Senior Lauren Beaudreau swam to a ninth-place finish in the 200 breast in 2:20.83. The Spiders closed the meet with a sixth-place finish in the 400 free relay as freshmen Charlotte Brackett and Liz Cohan, senior Alex Helland and Sieben posted a time of 3:31.37. Richmond's 235.5 points was good for seventh, while the host Maryland Terrapins won the women's meet with 787 points. N.C. State was second (602), William & Mary was third (597), Connecticut was fourth (589.5) and Villanova was fifth (429) in the 10-team meet. "The meet served as my mid-term exam," said Barany. "I get so see where we are succeeding and where we're not. I think we have some good notes and a very motivated team."
