Katie Sieben Named A-10 Swimming Performer of the Week

Nov. 20, 2007

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore swimmer Katie Sieben has been named the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week after a breakout performance at the Maryland Terrapin Cup over the weekend in College Park. Sieben posted the third-fastest 100 fly time in the nation this year and an NCAA "A" cut.

Sieben's time in the 100 fly of 53.73 currently ranks as the third-fastest in the NCAA this season and allowed the sophomore to become just the second Spider in school history to achieve an "A" cut time. She is guaranteed a spot in the 2008 NCAA Swimming Championship.

The Seymour, Conn. native collected NCAA "B" cut times by swimming the 100 free in 50.17 and the 50 free in 23.09. All three of her swims are the fastest times in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Along with her first career NCAA cut-times in three individual events, Sieben anchored the Spiders' school-record-setting 400 medley relay. Alex Helland, Lauren Beaudreau and Jessica Witt also swam the relay that finished in 3:45.74, crushing the three-year old mark of 3:47.29.

Richmond finished fourth in the nine-team field at Maryland.
