Richmond Notches Victories Over Keuka, Mary Washington and William & Mary
Jan. 27, 2001 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - In meet action against five teams on Saturday morning in Newport News, Va., the University of Richmond synchronized swimming team posted victories over Mary Washington College, Keuka College and The College of William & Mary. Richmond dropped decisions to the University of Alabama Birmingham and Stanford. The Spiders had four first place finishes against Keauka, Mary Washington and William & Mary. Spider newcomer Mandy Hauser (San Antonio, Texas) posted first place finishes against each of the teams and teamed with senior Courtney Sullivan (Rockville, Va.) to win the duet competitions. In addition, Sullivan combined with sophomore Julia Conn (Andover, Mass.) and freshman Lauren Gustafson (East Amherst, N.Y.) to claim the trio competitions against both Mary Washington and William & Mary. The Spiders also claimed top honors in the team events versus Keuka, William & Mary as well as Mary Washington. Spider freshmen Asha Bandal (St. Paul, Minn.) and Ann Masterman (Paston, Mass.) were second in duet competition versus Mary Washington and sophomore Katie Albrecht (Akron, Ohio), senior Elizabeth Faucher (Portsmouth, R.I.) and sophomore Schyler Reese (Carlisle, Pa.) were second in trios. Versus the University of Alabama Birmingham, Haeuser was second in solo competition and teamed with Sullivan to record a second place finish in duets. Conn, Gustafson and Sullivan were second in trio competition and the Spiders were second and third in team competition versus UAB.
Against Stanford, Haeuser continued her impressive performances, placing second in solo competition. The Spiders also registered a second place finish in team competition against the Cardinal. In addition, Richmond posted third and fourth place finishes in trio and duet competitions.
