University of Richmond, Va. - The women's tennis squad made a strong showing this past weekend at the ODU Invitational in Norfolk, Va. Freshmen Kelly Tidwell and Helen Cunningham defeated doubles opponents from NSU and Kennesaw State to advance to the final round in the Women's Doubles B Flight.

Freshmen Isabel Arana and Catherine Crystal won four straight matches to secure the title of the Women's Doubles C Flight.

The Spiders were impressive in singles play, with Tidwell winning four straight to secure the title of the Women's B Singles Final Round winner.

Senior Pamela Duran defeated Lerissa Morris of Norfolk State (6-0, 6-0), Carmen Pop of William & Mary and Joanna Dobrowolska of ODU (6-1, 6-0) to win the Women's A Singles Consolation Final Rounds.

"I was very impressed with the way we played," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "Our freshman played well. I think our whole team is realizing our potential. We did well at the tournament, and I think we're going to be very strong one through six."

Richmond returns to action Oct. 24th, when they will compete at the ITA Regional Championships. The tournament will take place in Philadelphia, Penn.
