RICHMOND, Va. – In a tough offensive day for the University of Richmond, third baseman Dominic Toso (Philadelphia, Pa.) laced a two-out double down the left field line in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Richmond (6-3) fell to Rutgers 21-3 on Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.

The Spiders got hits in the first, fourth and fifth, but all were left stranded. Christian Beal (Flosmoor, Ill.), Alden Mathes (Broomall, Pa.) and Jason Neff (West Palm Beach, Fla.) collected base hits for Richmond.

Rutgers got to Richmond starter Jeremy Neff (West Palm Beach, Fla.) in the third, tagging him for five runs, four earned, on three hits, two walks, and a hit batter. He also collected three strikeouts in his 2.2 inning outing.

The Scarlet Knights (8-1) added four runs in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead. Rutgers put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and eighth innings and a final run in the ninth.

In the eighth, Drew Beno (Loxahatchee, Fla.) led off the frame with a walk. With two outs and Beno at third, Toso hit his second double of the day to right center to plate Beno for the Spiders first run.

Jared Sprague-Lott (Philadelphia, Pa.) led off the ninth with a double to left center. Andrew Papantonis (Lebanon Township, N.J.) followed with a sharp base hit though the middle to put runners on the corners for Chase Conklin (Mullica Hill, N.J.). Conklin, already 2-for-3 on the day, hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Sprague-Lott.

Richmond's third run of the game came on a Rutgers error in the ninth.

Dane Armson (Montoursville, Pa.) made his Richmond debut in the ninth, allowing one run on two hits and two walks and struck out two.

Richmond returns to Pitt Field Sunday to host Lafayette at noon on ESPN-Plus.
