Spider Baseball Suffers Setback at No. 20 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Richmond Baseball team dropped the final game of the weekend series at No. 20 Alabama 14-1 in seven innings at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Spiders agreed to the 10-run rule due to travel constraints.
Richmond (0-3) has a quick turnaround and will be back in action Tuesday, heading to Williamsburg to face William & Mary at 3 p.m. on FloSports. Fans will need a FloSports subscription to view the game.
UR got on the board in the third inning. Mikey Kluska got the Spiders going with a sharp liner back through the middle of the infield. Christian Beal followed with a single to center for his second hit of the day. Alden Mathes picked up his first RBI of the season, scoring Kluska from second.
The Spiders scattered three more hits over the last four innings. Sprague-Lott led off the fourth with his second base hit of the day, but was one of the six Spiders left on base. In the fifth, Jordan Jaffe reached base on an Alabama fielding error and advanced to third on a two-out base hit by Mathes. Jaffe, making his first collegiate start today, drew a walk in the seventh.
Spider starter Brenden Argomaniz (0-1) took the loss allowing six runs on five hits, struck out three, walked two and hit three batters in two and a third of an inning of work. Kyle Subers made his Richmond debut, tossing two and two-thirds of an inning, scattering three runs, two earned, on six hits. He struck out three and walked one.
Brian Reinke tossed a third of an inning, allowing five runs, two earned, on two walks, two hit batters, and one strikeout in six batters faced. Sammy Senders finished the inning, allowing one hit, a walk and striking out one.
